Retrospekt, a product design and development studio for refurbished retro tech products, has launched a new collection of analog film, music and timekeeping devices featuring Miffy, the beloved bunny created by Dutch author and illustrator Dick Bruna.
The Miffy + Retrospekt collection includes a Polaroid instant camera, two 35mm film cameras, an analog flip clock, two camera bags, a portable cassette player and a turntable. Each product features Miffy illustrations that have delighted fans for nearly 70 years. The devices and packaging use Bruna's classic color palette of blue, yellow and red.
"Adventurous. Curious. Simple. Timeless: These are words Dick Bruna used to describe Miffy that really resonate with us today,” says Michael Kempen, creative director, Retrospekt. “They mirror our relationship with retro tech. Our process embodies a bit of each of those things.”
“This collaboration with Retrospekt highlights the playful nostalgia that draws fans to Miffy,” says Jackie DeMaio, senior licensing director at Miffy’s North American licensing agent, The Joester Loria Group. “We’re so excited to provide an opportunity for fans to experience Miffy in a completely new way that still pays homage to her rich history.”
Miffy began as simple bedtime stories created by Bruna for his son in 1955. Since then, Miffy has appeared in over 30 books, selling over 85 million copies and translated into over 50 languages. This collection brings Miffy's charm to a variety of Retrospekt products:
The Retrospekt FC-11 Miffy 35mm Film Camera
The Polaroid 600 Miffy Instant Film Camera
The Retrospekt CP-81 Miffy portable cassette player
The Retrospekt Miffy Flip Clock
The Retrospekt TX-90 turntable
A 35mm camera bag and an instant camera bag
Urban Outfitters will exclusively offer a Miffy-themed version of Retrospekt’s Simple-use 35mm film camera, preloaded with film, along with the turntable as part of their Miffy product lineup. Items from the Miffy + Retrospekt collection are available now on Urban Outfitters’ website, in select stores and on Retrospekt's website, with additional items launching later in the year.
