“Our commitment to honoring Popeye’s legacy while innovating for the future is stronger than ever,” says Carla Silva, senior vice president, general manager and head, global licensing, King Features. “This vibrant array of collaborations and products spotlight the enduring appeal of our iconic nautical hero. And we look forward to providing fans around the world with more inspirational product and experiences for years to come.”

In addition to these new products, the Natural Museum of American History honored Popeye’s 95 years of influence on pop-culture with a special screening event on Nov. 19. The evening centered around the digital premiere of three cartoon shorts from the Popeye the Sailor series: “Anvil Chorus Girl” (1944), “House Tricks” (1946), and “Olive Oyl for President” (1948). These color shorts were first played theatrically during the 1940s, when Popeye’s popularity reached its peak, immortalizing him as one of America’s favorite characters.

A World War II-era mascot for the everyman, Popeye is known for standing up to bullies, protecting the weak, and fighting for what is right. His wit, grit, unforgettable laugh, and love of spinach launched a legacy that remains “Strong to the Finish” almost a century later. For the first time, courtesy of Warner Bros. Entertainment and Popeye brand owner, King Features Syndicate, these shorts were remastered from the 35mm nitrate successive exposure original camera negatives to create a one-of-a-kind viewing experience that fans will never forget. The content will be on exclusive loan to the museum for the remainder of Popeye’s anniversary year.
