Tove Jansson’s beloved characters inspire new television series, which will debut exclusively on Sky in the U.K. and Ireland in 2018.
Based on Tove Jansson’s classic novels and comic strips, “Moominvalley” will star Moomintroll, his family and friends, and will be centered around the Moominhouse and valley, an idyllic place entirely untouched by the modern world.
Furthermore, the new program will be directed by Steve Box (
Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit
) and produced by Gutsy Animations exclusively for Sky One and Sky Kids in the U.K. and Ireland. “Moominvalley” will air on Sky One, TV streaming service Now TV, the “Sky Kids” app and on demand on Sky in late 2018.
“With their beguiling adventures, magical setting and a cast of fantastical creatures, Tove Jansson’s beautiful books have been a well-deserved family favorite for decades and we can’t wait to bring the joyous Moomin world to Sky families in this fabulous new series.”
However, “Moominvalley” is only the next step forthe brand to further raise its profile. In March, Moomin Characters teamed up with Chinti and Parker for a capsule collection showcasing the brand’s characters. Meanwhile, in April, Moomin Characters and RealityXpander joined forces to launch the mobile AR game “Moomin Move” as part of Kew Gardens’ Moomin-themed Easter Festival in London.
In June, the brand also teamed up with the U.K. charity Oxfam to publish
The Invisible Child
, a short Moomin title that will support Oxfam’s women’s projects worldwide.
The art-based brand also boasts more than 600 licensees around the globe.
