“The Wombles” are supporting Eco-Schools’ #EcoSchoolsAtHome program, which provides children, families and teachers with environmental-themed teaching resources. The children’s characters are supporting this week’s litter topic with an online art competition. Children and students up to age 17 are invited to create posters, cartoons or films highlighting the impact of litter on wildlife.

“The competition supports a variety of curriculum areas and transferable skills, such as creative thinking and persuasive writing and can be completed during home schooling or in school,” says Daniel Avenar, chief executive officer, MDR Brand Management. “The winners based in England will receive a visit from Orinoco to their school (once it reopens), plus £500 to donate to a local environmental charity of their choice. Children and students outside England are also encouraged to participate in this fun learning initiative.”

Nursery and preschool children are invited, with the help of their families, to draw a picture of their favorite “Womble” and animal on a litter pick together. Primary and junior schools children are tasked with creating a short cartoon strip showing the Wombles out on a litter pick and explaining why it is good for the animals to not drop litter. Secondary and college students, up to age 17 are given the challenge of producing a 30-second video clip about why young people care and why they should not be embarrassed to pick up litter because of the impact it can have on wildlife.

Entries to the competition should be posted to Facebook, Twitter or Instagram, using the hashtag #TheWomblesEcoSchool. “The Wombles” will be promoting the competition with a series of short animated films, which will be run across their @WomblesOfficial social media channels.
