Papercutz on board to publish a range of graphic novels featuring the fashion doll.
Mattel has partnered with Papercutz to create a graphic novel series inspired by its Barbie franchise.
Papercutz will develop a range of titles based on the Barbie media properties and toy franchise. The new titles will aim to complement the way that children interact with the character and to focus on the diversity Mattel has brought to the brand.
The first three titles will include an eponymous Barbie series and individual novels based on the Barbie Starlight and Barbie Puppy Adventure movies. The first titles–Barbie and Barbie: Puppy Party–will launch this September while Barbie Starlight will be released in October.
Additional Barbie graphic novels will be released in the first half of 2017, with new installments and series set to launch each season.
"Barbie is one of the great kids’ properties, and I couldn’t imagine a better addition to our publishing lineup," says Terry Nantier, publisher, Papercutz. "There’s never been a more exciting time to be a Barbie fan, and we can’t wait to be a part of her new adventures. As Mattel guides the character in to new situations and life experiences, these new graphic novels will play a pivotal role in telling her story. Together, we’re going to create a series of publications that will delight and thrill a whole new generation of Barbie fans.”
