NORTH AMERICA–King Features has secured a slate of licensing deals for the classic Archie Comics brand across categories including apparel, accessories, novelties and more.

First, Spencer’s Gifts has signed on to create a robust product assortment that includes apparel, accessories, glassware, costumes and novelty items. The new items will be available in the U.S. and Canada in early 2018. In addition, Spirit Halloween, which is part of Spencer’s Gifts, will be showcasing new Archie Comics costumes next year.

Plus-size retailer Torrid.com is also on board to create a fashion collection inspired by the brand’s classic characters Betty and Veronica. The line will feature dresses, tops, sweaters and more, and will be available in summer 2018.

Meanwhile, Ripple Junction will feature Archie, Betty, and Veronica on a variety of apparel and novelty items. Highlights from the range include fashion tops, fleece tops, jackets, cellphone accessories, enamel pins, and hats. The collection will be available in mass market stores, mid-tier stores, department stores, specialty stores, catalogs and e-commerce websites in the U.S. and Canada.

Funko has signed on for a collection of Pop! vinyl figures, classic figures, plush, apparel, bags and accessories. The licensee will also produce a digital collection of figures, trading cards, emojis and stickers, which will launch at Comic-Con International 2018.

In Australia, King Features partnered with Mitch Dowd to launch a range of branded men’s and women’s t-shirts at Big W, as well as develop styles for an exclusive print-on-demand program through Amazon Australia. Merchantwise, King Features’ Australia and New Zealand licensing agent, brokered the deals.

Finally, Zynga has renewed its agreement to feature Archie Comics on its “Hit it Rich” virtual slot machine game, which is available worldwide.

“More than 75 years after the Riverdale gang’s debut, demand for the brand is as high as ever,” says Carla Silva, vice president and general manager, global head of licensing, King Features. “Archie and his friends are a pop culture sensation and we are excited to bring new, fun product collections to fans around the world.”
