Hamasaki will tour with custom merchandise based on the Fleischer Studios-owned character.
The designers worked closely with Fleischer Studios and King Features to create the new design, which has similar features to a mixture of the original cartoon character’s features and Hamasaki’s signature look. Pieces in the collection include Betty Boop t-shirts, pants, a towel and a bag.
“King Features has a robust licensing program in Japan and has partnered with many artists, music bands and sports teams in the territory,” says Carla Silva, vice president, general manager and global head, licensing, King Features. “We are excited to continue this tradition by Betty Boop-ifying Ayu and bringing her playful style to her fans in Japan and around the world.”
The collaboration comes in the lead up to the 90th anniversary of Betty Boop next year. King Features has announced
with brands in Brazil as part of the anniversary.
