Paws, Inc. has signed a range of new apparel licensees in the U.S., Brazil, Australia, Canada, the Middle East and France for Garfield.
The Classics and Fright Rags have joined the character's apparel program in the U.S. with Classics focusing on tops and bottoms and Fright Rags featuring a horror-inspired version of the feisty feline.
The two new additions join ODM, which has a line of men’s and boys’ tees currently at Walmart, and Paws, Inc. is looking to add more apparel partners to the U.S. roster.
“We’re currently in the hunt for apparel and accessory licensees particularly for infants and children," says Jill Davis, senior vice president, licensing, Garfield, Paws, Inc. "Garfield is constantly building a new audience that starts with the very young who see 'The Garfield Show' on Cartoon Network and Boomerang. Moms like Garfield and Odie for baby, too, in part due to the nostalgia factor.”
New international apparel licensees for the cartoon character include C&A Modas and ABR Art Bag Rio Comercio in Brazil, Undiz in France, Hollywood Magic in the Middle East, NTD Apparel in Canada and Mistiyarn in Australia and New Zealand.
These new partners joined a number of other designers who have put their own twist on the classic cartoon character including Lazy Oaf, H&M, Women's Secret in Spain, Original Marines in Italy, in Baleno in China and Canary in the Philippines.
“Pardon the pun but, Garfield is well-suited to apparel," says Jim Davis, Garfield creator and president, Paws, Inc. "We’re a licensor focused 100 percent on Garfield, and we know the character better than anyone. We can offer copy and design that rings true to the Garfield fan, while taking into consideration today’s trends. Garfield’s audience can be both the teenage girl shopping at Forever 21, or the 6-year-old boy who wants Garfield on his PJs. Garfield speaks to everyone on some level.”
