King Features capitalizes on classic character's new popularity.

King Features Syndicate is readying comic book hero Flash Gordon for takeoff with a lineup of new international and domestic licensing partners.

Following a resurgence in interest due to the character's appearances in the Ted films and a comic strip that has been syndicated in newspapers and websites across the globe, Flash Gordon is back in the public eye, and King Features Syndicate is running with the opportunity, signing a raft of new product partners.

Among the new companies joining the Flash Gordon universe in the U.S. are Bif Bang Pow!/Entertainment Earth (toys), Chronicle (prop replicas), Funko (vinyl figures), Mondo (limited edition screen prints) and Zynga (social slots).

These new licensees join current U.S. partners Bamford (Rolex watches), Boluga (mobile game), Dynamic Forces (comic books/collectibles), Great White Games (tabletop/role-playing games), Hermes Press and IDW (publishing), Just Funky (gifts and novelties) and Mad Engine (t-shirts).

International fans, including those in Japan, Australia, Brazil, Spain, Italy and the U.K., will also get their share of Flash Gordon product from Carobna Knjiga, Ediouro, Editoriale Cosmo, Illyas Erkul and MC Productions (publishing); Crown Creative (apparel and accessories); European Games Group (virtual goods); and Kid Collective, Sprinter and Zero Seven Studio (apparel).

“Flash Gordon is a true icon and one of the most beloved comic strips of all time,” says Cathleen Titus, vice president of international licensing, King Features. “King Features has been fortunate enough to be a part of the ride since the beginning, and our licensees have such enthusiasm for the brand that it’s easy to see why it has resonated so strongly with consumers.”
