Budding Australian designers will feature the classic cartoon character on an international apparel line.
DreamWorks Animation has tapped Australian e-retailer The First Thread to launch a Felix the Cat capsule collection featuring the work of several of Australia’s emerging designers.
The range, Project Design Felix, challenged designers including Phoenix Keating, Mariam Seddiq and Nylons to create pieces that celebrate Felix the Cat.
The collection includes a catsuit by Phoenix Keating; choker, earrings and key ring by Nylons (Bianca Censori); a sweatshirt by Mariam Seddiq; cufflinks, tie pin and amulet by Burton Metal Depository (Clara Ho); swimwear by LunarSand (Ruby and Asher Licciardi); embroidered pants by Pizzuto (Suzie Rose Vella); and resort apparel by Caslazur.
Created in 1919, Felix the Cat was the first moving image to be broadcast on U.S. television. DreamWorks bought the rights to the brand in 2014.
Project Design Felix will launch exclusively on The First Thread’s website in Australia, the U.S., Japan, South Korea, Singapore and Hong Kong, Sept. 1.
