Little Airplane, NHK, Big Tent to release new TV special.
Little Airplane Productions has teamed with Japanese broadcaster NHK, NHK Enterprises and the U.S. licensing company Big Tent Entertainment to release a TV special starring the Japanese character Domo.
The 24-minute special, "Domo Rock!," marks the character's first time appearing in long-form content.
Domo first appeared in 1998 in a series of short-form animations for the 10 year anniversary of NHK’s satellite broadcasting and went on to become a viral sensation.
The new special premiered on NHK in March 2014, and now the partners plan to bring it to the rest of the world. NHK Enterprises will handle Asian broadcasting rights, while Little Airplane will distribute the special in the rest of the world with plans to debut the show at MIPCOM in October.
"Domo Rock!" takes Domo on an international road trip as he tries to get from Japan to LA to play a concert in Hollywood. The special is aimed at a teenage audience with a theme song from the indie rock band Big D and Kids Table.
“We are honored to be working with NHK, NHK Enterprises and Big Tent on Domo’s first animated rock 'n roll special for an international audience. Domo truly does rock,” says Josh Selig, founder, Little Airplane Productions.
