Big Tent Entertainment is expanding its relationship with Tsuneo Goda, creator of the Domo character, to also represent the character Komaneko.

Based on the animated short film Komaneko: The First Step, Big Tent Entertainment will create a retail and branding campaign based on the property.

Komaneko is a creative cat who lives with her grandfather on top of a mountain and is planning to shoot a movie all by herself.

Komaneko: The First Step was a finalist at the Melbourne International Animation Festival, the London International Animation Festival and the Seoul International Cartoon & Animation Festival. The animation series is made frame-by-frame, which is how Komaneko got her name–"koma" means "frame" and "neko" means "cat" in Japanese.

Big Tent plans to launch the brand to a wider audience with the release of a new e-book that will be an adaptation of the film. In addition to the story, the app will also feature a Movie Maker tool, interactive content, games and puzzles.

The book will launch as part of the Kideo eTales series, available on iTunes and Google Play in English, Malay and Mandarin.

Komaneko is a story that has captured the imagination of millions all across the globe since its release in Japan six years ago,” says Rich Collins, chief executive officer, Big Tent Entertainment. “It’s a stunningly rich and beautiful story that has been adapted perfectly in this e-book format. This is also an opportunity for us to work with Tsuneo Goda in a different format, and it’s been extremely rewarding.”
