Pretty Ugly has teamed up with the Boldface Group to expand its Uglydoll brand into the beauty category.

Boldface is planning a range of beauty and personal care items featuring the brand that will include bath, soap, shower and body care products, as well as lip balms, fragrance and bath accessories. The initial range will launch later this year.

"We are committed to the positive message that ugly is the new beautiful,” says Nicole Ostoya, chief executive officer, Boldface. “The brand's specific, unisex attitude and whimsical edge will be conveyed through design, packaging, unique scents and the use of quality ingredients with result-driven formulas. We will make products that will make us feel good inside and out."

Created by husband and wife artist team, David Horvath and Sun-Min Kim, in 2001, the Uglydoll franchise is currently available on a wide range of licensed and publishing products.

Earlier this year, Universal Partnerships & Licensing signed on to expand the digital category of the brand, known as the Uglyverse, with a range of interactive and wireless content including apps, games, widgets and virtual goods. A feature film based on the Uglydoll characters is also currently in development.
