Settlement changes licensing rights for late artist.
December 9, 2024
The family of the late painter Thomas Kinkade and Art Brand Studios have reached a settlement regarding the licensing rights for intellectual property owned by the Kinkades.
Art Brand has been the exclusive licensee of the Kinkades’ intellectual property since 2015.
Earlier this year, a dispute between the Kinkade family and Art Brand about their licensing contract led to litigation. Under a new settlement, the rights to license the Kinkades’ intellectual property revert back to the Kinkades.
Going forward, the Kinkades will work with MHS Licensing to serve as their agent
for licensing of the Kinkades’ intellectual property. MHS Licensing has represented artists
since 1995. Under a new contract with the Kinkades, Art Brand will continue to manage a limited number of licensing contracts and continue to manufacture and sell limited edition and open edition artwork.
