After a lull in April, toy sales in the U.K. for May are up 12 percent in value on May 2009 and unit sales are up 26 percent, according to NPD Group, and it's thanks to the World Cup.

The "All Other" toys category has driven May growth with its value up 44 percent and units up 149 percent on the same month a year ago. This growth is driven by World Cup preparations and even before the tournament began FIFA has the top-selling property in the "All Other" toys category. FIFA also has the top-selling item across total toys for the month: the Official FIFA World Cup 10 Stickers. These accounted for 29 percent of all units sold within "All Other" toys for the month, with a low average price of 49 pence. Six of the top 10 best-selling toy items are football-related collectible card and sticker accessories. Toys sold under £5 ($7) accounted for 73 percent of all units purchased in the last month up 32 percent from May last year.
