Crocodile Hunter Remembered via New Toy Line
Wild Republic will create a special line of toys and collector item series based on Steve Irwin, a.k.a. The Crocodile Hunter, via a deal with the Australia Zoo and the Irwin family. Debuting next month at Toy Fair, the line of nearly 39 products includes various sized plush, action figures, and playsets. Part of the Wild Republic product line will be centered on Bindi Irwin, the eldest daughter in the family, who completed a new children's exercise and fitness DVD and began filming a new series for Discovery Channel this summer before her father's accident. The series will air on Animal Planet in March.

French Kitty Says "Oui" to U.S. Rollout
Mighty Fine will build on the international success of French Kitty with a U.S. licensing program under the direction of newly appointed agent Stone America Licensing. Plans for the fanciful feline include creating product with great style at an accessible price (a.k.a. accessible luxury). Future Asian expansion for 2007 includes stores in Thailand, Singapore, Korea, Indonesia, Taiwan, and China, as well as beauty salons and intimate apparel stores. Mighty Fine also is working with Jane Evans Licensing Consultancy for European expansion.

Software Application Is a Comic Book Marvel
Planetwide Media launched the Marvel Heroes Comic Book interactive entertainment software, allowing users to create personalized comic books featuring their favorite Marvel characters—Spider-Man, X-Men with Wolverine, and Elektra. The software (suggested retail, $29.99) allows users to drag and drop images, icons, taglines, symbols, and artwork into a selection of more than 100 different layout and design templates. Users can create with more than 300 pieces of Marvel content, then combine their creation and storyline to make their own "Marvel Heroes" comics. Additional versions and content booster packs will be merchandised and sold separately. Future titles include: Marvel Comics Retro Comic Book Creator for comic book collectors, Marvel Spider-Man and Friends Comic Book Creator, and Marvel Ghost Rider Comic Book Creator.

Outreach Program Raises Profile Online
Sesame Workshop and The New York State Office of Mental Health expanded the scope of the You Can Ask! Initiative, making the outreach materials available online at The materials include a video featuring Sesame Street Muppets in four segments produced in response to 9/11 dealing with fear, loss, bullying, and accepting differences. Print materials—available in English, Spanish, and Chinese—provide information on ways to talk about and deal with difficult situations in age-appropriate ways. There also is an interactive English-language story for children, where Elmo learns to cope with his mother returning to work.

Genius Products to Distribute ToddWorld
Taffy Entertainment chose Genius Products as home video partner for ToddWorld. DVDs of the half-hour animated series based on the books of Todd Parr will be available in stores for spring 2007.

Surfer Brand Rides the Apparel Wave
Primedia Enterprises marks the foray of the Surfer brand into the apparel market with a new collaboration with TS2. The company will create a line of men's T-shirts, sweatshirts, and headwear under the name, "Busby Ltd.," TS2's apparel design house. Additionally, Busby Ltd. will create a line of branded shorts and board shorts, T-shirts, sweatshirts, and headwear for boys due spring 2007.

Classic Media Characters Head to Video Games
Classic Media and Flashman Studios formed a consulting agreement to create video games for its portfolio of characters including Rocky & Bullwinkle, The Lone Ranger, Underdog, Gerald McBoing Boing, Santa Claus Is Comin' to Town, Hot Stuff, and Peter Cottontail.
Flashman now actively seeks game publishers worldwide.

Execs on the Move
TV-Loonland appointed Bernd Conrad the new head of licensing and merchandising. Nick Starsmore was promoted to CEO of North America and president of global retail for denim maker Evisu.
