Target Targets Harlem for First Permanent Retail Venue in
Manhattan
Target is building its first permanent store in Manhattan in the East River
Plaza in Harlem between 116th and 119th Streets along the FDR Drive. The 135,000-square-foot
retail store will occupy the second floor of the five-story building with
storage space located on the lower level. Home Depot is setting up shop on the
first floor, and Best Buy is taking a portion of the third floor.
Fox Home Entertainment Is Sweet on Strawberry Shortcake
DIC Entertainment and American Greetings Corporation finalized a five-year home
entertainment agreement with Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment (TCFHE )
to distribute Strawberry Shortcake in the U.S. and Canada. The multimillion
dollar deal extends TCFHE's distribution of Strawberry Shortcake to include
additional DVD exclusive animated titles, a new CGI-animated movie, and a
live-action series, as well as select content from DIC's library including Care
Bears, Madeline, Inspector Gadget, and Dennis the Menace. The trio will release
approximately four new DVD exclusive titles in 2007.
Scholastic Properties Star at Wendy´s
Clifford The Big Red Dog, I Spy, Goosebumps, and Maya & Miguel are starring
in a promotion at Wendy's Restaurants through December 17. Consumers purchasing
a Kids' Meal will receive one of four original DVD games based on the
properties.
McDonald's iZ the Place for Promotion
McDonald´s is turning up the volume on fun with iZ, the first-ever animatronic
DJ to be featured as part of its Happy Meals and Mighty Kids Meals. Kids can
collect one of six iZ characters as part of the promotion, which runs December
1 through 21. Each toy comes in three color variations for a total of 18
collectible characters.
Mattel Adds Colorful New Licensee
Mattel is partnering with color expert PPG Industries to produce Hot Wheels
Spectraflame paint for use in automotive refinishing. The co-branded Hot
Wheels/PPG Industries paint line emulates the Spectraflame colors featured in
Hot Wheels toy cars and marks the first time consumers can purchase
Spectraflame paint. Colors such as aqua, medium sapphire, lime gold, rich
yellow gold, bright emerald, anti-freeze green, orange, bright red, Hot Wheels
blue, hot pink, light red watermelon, and purple are part of PPG's Vibrance
Collection and will be available this month at collision centers and custom
paint shops nationwide.
Campaign to Tickle Consumers' Funny Bones
TBS and Parker Brothers are promoting PBS' TV lineup and adult party games
Electronic Catch Phrase and Scattergories by Parker Brothers with the "Laugh
Loud" campaign. The promotion runs through January 12 with on-air support and
online exposure at www.TBS.com. Retailers such
as Target, Toys "R" Us, and Kmart also will feature a dedicated co-branded
rebate program via branded stickers placed on select Parker Brothers games, as
well as "Laugh Loud" point-of-purchase, floor, and rebate pad creative.
New Licensees Support Club Deportivo Guadalajara
The licensee portfolio for Mexican soccer team Club Deportivo Guadalajara is
getting kicked up a notch with All-Sport Brush on board for toothbrushes;
Bakery Crafts for cake decorations; BDK for automotive accessories and outdoor
products; Conrad Asher for dinnerware, cups, and 3-D mugs; IMT for picnic
chairs and coolers; JP Imports for domestics and linens; and Kittrich Corp. for
stationery, toys, paper party goods, and room décor. P&L Global Network
handles the licensing program.
Sakar Launches Licensing Division
Sakar formed a new licensing division and already has four clients on board
including DreamWorks Animation, For Dummies, Out of Order, and The Spy Academy.
The company's diverse product offerings include: digital cameras, digital/video
camera accessories, computers, iPods and gaming accessories, digital camera
video bags, binoculars, CD players, MP3 players, portable sound cases, radios,
and gift and toy electronics.
