Van Raalte Joins The Joester Loria Group
Peter Van Raalte is joining The Joester Loria Group as senior vice president of
business development. In his new post, the former vice president of consumer
products at Scholastic Entertainment will be responsible for strategic
planning, management of key licensing programs, and new business development.
Cartoon Network Strengthens Promotions Marketing Team
Cartoon Network is expanding its promotions marketing team to key markets in
Los Angeles and Chicago. The current expansion marks the promotion and
relocation of Terri Tuttle to the position of senior director working in
Chicago, and Sabina Spigel to director in Los Angeles. In her new role, Tuttle
will manage the Chicago and Midwest region, while Spigel will oversee the Los
Angeles area, where she will continue to create and implement promotion
packages for clients in the West Coast region.
Diamond Select Treks Out New Licensed Line
Diamond Select Toys and Collectibles will create an array of action figures,
ships, statues, Minimates, and other collectibles based on Star Trek. Future
plans include all-new starship and prop replicas, resin statues, Minimate block
figures, and action figures based on all five Star Trek series and the feature
films. Art Asylum will continue to develop each collectible starting with
action figures for Star Trek: The Next Generation.
Classic Media Readies Classic DVD
Classic Media warms audiences this winter with The Legend of Frosty the
Snowman, complete with a marketing, promotional, and advertising program. In
stores October 18, the DVD (suggested retail, $21.98) will be supported by
consumer brands including Frito Lay, LifeSavers, Keebler, and Renuzit in
addition to retail-specific programs at several mass, grocery, drug, and
convenience stores. A television, print, and radio campaign, as well as an
online component, also is planned.
Commonwealth Toys to Support Jakers!
Commonwealth Toys is on board to support Jakers! The Adventures of Piggley
Winks as master toy licensee. First products based on the PBS Kids series will
include plush and beanies of the main characters in addition to windup toys,
figurines, playsets, environments, key chains, and banks due in summer 2006.
Licensing agent United Media will continue to build the Jakers! licensing
program, targeting additional key categories such as social expression,
apparel, and advertising/promotions.
Tattoo Shop Inspires Jeans Maker
Hart & Huntington Tattoo Co. inked a deal with designer jean maker Mia
Brazilia to manufacture a line of jeans under the Hart & Huntington Tattoo
Co. moniker. The name, which originates from the tattoo shop located in the
Palms Casino in Las Vegas, has gained notoriety due in large part to the shop?s
central role in the A&E TV series, Inked. Hart & Huntington?s tattoo
artists will be given the exclusive opportunity to design custom, one-off jeans
for sale to the public.
DreamWorks Signs Deal with Kellogg
DreamWorks Animation SKG and Kellogg Co. entered into a multi-picture,
multi-year worldwide promotional partnership to support DreamWorks Animation?s
feature films and home video products. The first-ever deal between the duo
provides Kellogg with exclusive worldwide rights to DreamWorks Animation?s film
properties for the ready-to-eat cereals, toaster pastries, cereal bars, and
fruit-flavored snacks categories and exclusive U.S. rights for frozen waffles,
pancakes, cookies, and crackers. The company also will create themed products
with DreamWorks? characters. Kellogg?s marketing plans include television,
online initiatives, and in-store displays in addition to promotional and
licensing programs around the properties.
DVD Release Supported at Loews Theaters
WGBH Boston Video teamed with Loews Theaters to promote its new preschool DVD
release, The Shushybye Dream Band Live on Tour. The promotional events begin
Saturday, October 22, at the Loews Theater at Universal CityWalk. The free
event will feature a live performance by the Shushybye Dream Band performing
original Shushybye rock songs and lullabies, followed by a screening of the
one-hour DVD. The promotional tour also will take place at Loews Theaters in
New York, Chicago, Atlanta, Seattle, and Dallas, among other cities.
Surf Diva Dives Into Swimwear Deal
Surf Diva partnered with Ana Romano Swimwear on the Surf Diva swimwear
collection. The collection will include bikinis, one-pieces, and cover-ups on
shelves at specialty surf and swim shops and higher-end department stores.
Bobby Jones Expands Product Scope
Bobby Jones, a division of the Hickey Freeman Company, and Luxury Accessories
International inked a licensing agreement for the manufacture and U.S.
distribution of Bobby Jones belts and leather products. The line currently is
on shelves at Bobby Jones retail stores and at bobbyjonesshop.com. Wholesale
distribution to fine retailers, specialty stores, country clubs, and resorts
will begin in January 2006 for the spring season. Products will include men?s
and women?s belts, wallets, billfolds, key chains, card cases, and duffel and
tote bags.
Kids Get Personal with Sesame Street Pals
Sesame Workshop and Make It About Me! will bring Elmo, Cookie Monster, and
other favorite characters from Sesame Street to children?s homes and hearts with
photo-personalized books that star the children themselves. First books are due
in fall with additional skus planned for 2006 and beyond. The books (suggested
