Shrek and Ronald to Join Forces
DreamWorks Animation SKG and McDonald'sCorporation announced a two-year worldwide marketing and promotionalrelationship, beginning with the May 2007 release of Shrek 3. The partnershipwill include such signature promotions as McDonald's Happy Meals. Althoughdetails on promotional and licensing plans are still in the works, DreamWorks'Anne Globe, head of marketing and promotion for consumer products, says thecompanies will look for "new, interactive ways" to educate and entertain. Gamesare among the content planned. McDonald's Global Chief Marketing Officer LarryLight adds, "We continue to look for all kinds of vehicles for communicatingour message beyond the traditional 30-second TV ad." These will includeInternet, merchandising, and other promotional opportunities.
Playboy Enterprises Stakes a Claim on Poker
Playboy Enterprises, Inc., signed a deal with Moneymaker Gaming to createco-branded poker products. Chris Moneymaker, who became an overnight sensationafter turning $40 into $2.5 million at the World Series of Poker, launchedMoneymaker Gaming earlier this year. The collection will be availablethroughout North America, and will include poker chips and sets, tables,collectibles, and accessories. Initial products will include a signature pokerchip set and high-end poker table retailing at PlayboyStore.com,MoneymakerGaming.com, and the Playboy Concept Boutique in Las Vegas.
Designer at Home with New Collections
Jonathan Adler came to market with his first collection of upholstered furnitureand accent pieces in partnership with Rowe Furniture. The collection includessix upholstered furniture groups, each centered around a distinctive sofa andaugmented by four iconic chairs, a folding screen, and two accent piececollections. The designer also brought his modern sensibility to the bedroomwith a new line of bedding, decorative pillows, and throws from FrancoManufacturing. Ripe Ideas forged the agreements on Adler's behalf.
Majesco Taps Films for GBA Video
Majesco Entertainment Co. signed a worldwide licensing agreement withDreamWorks SKG to publish Game Boy Advance Video versions of Shrek, Shrek 2,and Shark Tale. The deal marks the first time Majesco has included full-lengthfeature films in its Game Boy Advance Video line. Under terms of the three-yeardeal, Majesco will exclusively distribute all three videos (suggested retail,$19.99 each) for use on the Game Boy Advance, Game Boy Advance SP, Nintendo DS,and the upcoming Game Boy Micro.
Konami Digital Entertainment Inks Deals
Konami Digital Entertainment, Inc., signed multi-year agreements withFremantleMedia Licensing Worldwide, Americas; Aardman Animation; DreamWorks;and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. As part of its deal withFremantleMedia, the company will create games for current and next-generationvideo game systems based on American Idol. The games will be distributedthroughout America, Canada, and Latin America. Together with Aardman Animation,the company will come to market with the official video game based on upcomingmovie Wallace & Gromit: Curse of the Were-Rabbit. Its alliance with WarnerBros. Interactive Entertainment will result in games for Xiaolin Showdown formultiple video game systems.

The team at Archie Comics Entertainment, LLC, signed Brand Central LLC to helpbuild the consumer product business for Josie & The Pussycats. The newprogram will feature vintage comic art from the '70s and '80s including classiccomic covers and retro character art that will be refreshed for today's fashiontrends. A new style guide was created for the vintage lifestyle program.Already on board are Trevco, Inc., as the lead apparel licensee and RichardLeeds International with junior's intimate apparel, sleepwear, loungewear,robes, and daywear.
