WBCP Plans LOTR, Hobbit Games

Warner Bros. Consumer Products has expanded its partnership with Cryptozoic Entertainment to create a board game for the upcoming film The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey and a new deck-building card game based on The Lord of the Rings franchise. Launching

Launching in early 2013, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey board game takes players through the adventures of Bilbo Baggins and his 13 dwarves. The game is being created in partnership with game developer Reiner Knizia.

Later this year, Cryptozoic will also launch a new deck-building card game based on

The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring

. Players assume the role of Frodo, Gandalf the Grey or Aragorn in the struggle against the forces of the Dark Lord Sauron. The deck-building game adds to Cryptozoic’s line-up of games based on the

film trilogy.
