Harmonix, the division of Viacom that develops the Rock Band video game franchise, will be put up for sale. According to the media giant, the gaming unit lost around $65 million in the latest quarter.
The pending sale will not affect upcoming Rock Band and Dance Central releases, according to Harmonix.
MTV Networks, a division of Viacom, acquired Harmonix in 2006 for $175 million. The Rock Band franchise includes versions 1 and 2, Beatles- and Unplugged-themed editions, a music store with more than 600 downloadable songs and a wide range of gaming instruments.
