Almost 1,000 retailers, licensees, licensors and suppliers gathered for the UK’s Licensing Awards 2007 in London on Sept. 13 when comedian and television presenter Simon Amstell announced winners including “Doctor Who” for Best Licensed Schoolers, Tween or Teen Property; “The Simpsons” for Best Licensed Adult Property; and Spider-Man 3 from Hasbro for Best Licensed Toys or Games Range.

Nicholas Durbridge and Linda Pooley, co-founders of the Copyrights Group, were presented with the Honorary  Achievement award.

Postman Pat was on hand to help proceedings along and Paddington Bear celebrated his 50th birthday with a giant birthday cake that was later donated to the Children’s Trust charity. After dinner guests were entertained at a World Poker tour casino and Jongleurs Comedy Club with performances by Stephen K Amos, Sean Collins and Ricky Grover.

Over 4,000 products were entered for the product categories, which were judged by a panel of retailers including Ian Gibbs of Hamleys, Angela Poutney of Woolworths, Paul Sanders from Amazon and Emma Baker from Mothercare. Judges assessed each entry on design, innovation and originality, consumer targeting and quality of manufacture and packaging.

The retail categories were judged by a panel including Start Licensing’s Ian Downes, Karen Addison from Copyrights, Stephen Gould from 4Kidz and Lisa Shapiro from TLC.

The awards are organised by the Licensing Source Book.
