The Toy Industry Association unveiled the 77 finalists for the 2012 Toy of the Year Awards.
The association will collect votes from the public on ToyAwards.org now through Jan. 15. Winners will be selected with the input of consumers, retailers (mass and specialty), media and members of the toy industry. Winners will be announced Feb. 11, as the kick-off to the 109th American International Toy Fair.
This year's finalists included 67 unique products or properties from 51 companies, of which 21 are licensed properties. Nominated products included properties such as Beyblade, Thomas & Friends, Skylander, Justin Beiber, Tetris, Dora the Explorer, Pocoyo, Elmo, Cars 2, Busytown and Angry Birds.
"The annual TOTY Awards celebrate and honor the creative spirit of the toy industry," says Carter Keithley, president of the Toy Industry Association. "This event also supports the important work of the Toy Industry Foundation, which annually distributes more than half a million new toys and games to deserving kids across the nation and around the globe."
