Target stores are rolling out a new open layout with 30 percent more space for its electronics and video games department. U.S. video games hardware, software and accessories sales in 2009 generated revenue at nearly $19.66 billion, according to The NPD Group.

The revamped layout, expected to be completed by June, will feature product accessible fixtures, organized by platforms and game genres. In addition, many stores will also have Learning Centers and Trial Stations. The Learning Centers will feature a 40-inch HD touch screen where shoppers can read reviews, check store inventory and more. For electronics, Target is enhancing its current product offerings such as larger TV screen sizes, as well as new products, including super-slim LED TVs and Internet-capable TVs.

"Target is committed to creating an intuitive and easy shopping experience for our guests," says Mark Schindele, senior vice president, Target. "The electronics and video game reinvention was designed with the wants and needs

of our guests as our top priority. They've asked for additional product diversity and better access to games and information, and our new layout offers them just that."

In other Target electronic news, the retailer was recently announced as the first brick-and-mortar retailer to carry Amazon's Kindle.
