Since its debut eight years ago, The Seoul Character & Licensing Fair has become one of Asia's largest licensing exhibitions. Exhibitors on the show floor encompass a wide range of categories, including characters, animation, comics, games, broadcasting and entertainment. The 2010 fair, the largest one to date, was held July 21 to 25 at Coex, a convention and exhibition center located in Seoul's central business district. i1_800.jpg

The fair, hosted by the Korea Creative Content Agency (KOCCA), posted impressive numbers for 2010. The show floor hosted 507 booths representing 190 companies, a 13 percent increase compared to last year. Visitors totaled 201,180, a 4 percent increase over last year. According to Jennifer Lee, international marketing and relations specialist for the Seoul Character Licensing Fair 2010, 1,653 meetings were held over the course of the event generating deals valued at more than $51 million.

The licensing fair attracted exhibitors and attendees from around the globe, including Finland, France and the U.K. LIMA president Charles Riotto, one of several speakers at the Casual Conference Program, spoke about trends in the U.S. market. Feedback from attendees was positive.

"The Seoul Character Fair allows executives to view first hand the leading character properties being developed in Korea. The show features a Biz Matching program that offers the opportunity to meet the country's leading animation companies. Given that Korea has become a leader in the creation of high-quality animation, the Seoul Character Fair has become an important trade show event for those looking to obtain licensing representation or distribution rights to character properties emanating from this market," says Danny Simon, president and chief executive officer of The Licensing Group.

For next year's fair, SCF is planning to set up pavilions for international exhibitors and hold training and pitching programs.
