The books will be published over the next two years, beginning this month with the first-ever

RSPCA Annual

.

Beginning in January 2013 Scholastic will launch a series of stories based on real-life animal rescues:

Little Lost Hedgehog, Puppy Gets Stuck and Lamb All Alone

. Each story features fictional characters, but tells the true story of the RSPCA’s involvement in an animal rescue. Additional titles will be published each season.

In January 2014 the non-fiction strand begins with

All About…

, a series of animal welfare books that will give children advice and information on caring for cats, dogs and horses, as well as rabbits and other small pets.

“Scholastic is delighted to partner the U.K.’s most popular

animal charity. We know children are passionate about animals. Our books are designed to enhance young readers’ appreciation of them and to support responsible pet ownership,” says Hilary Murray Hill, managing director, Scholastic Children’s Books. “Furthermore, for every book sold, Scholastic will donate a minimum of 15 percent to the RSPCA to help save animals’ lives.”
