Nickelodeon & Viacom Consumer Products Germany (NVCP) has inked two new two-year deals—SpongeBob SquarePants licensed to Sony BMG and local tea-maker, H&S Tee-Gesellschaft. The innovative deals mean that products are now available throughout Austria, Germany and Switzerland.

The SpongeBob SquarePants soundtrack was launched on March 13, backed with television advertising, while SpongeBob teabags, launched under the Goldmännchen brand, are available in several flavors including pineapple and melon.

NVCP Benelux has signed its first partnership with local bag-maker, Hidalgo, to produce multi-property-branded canvas messenger bags. The SpongeBob SquarePants, Avatar the Last Airbender, Dora the Explorer and Go, Diego, Go! "Nickbags" are the first of their kind in the market and are available from mid-April via local online shop,

Meanwhile, "Dora the Explorer" will air for the first time on terrestrial television in Japan when new episodes of the Nick Jr show are broadcast on

TV Tokyo beginning April 6.

Meanwhile, Alligator Books sold over 250,000 Dora the Explorer activity books in the U.K. during the last quarter of 2008. The Dora the Explorer range, which includes coloring books, activity books, sticker storybooks, magic painting books, wipe clean books and magnetic activity books, is now the most popular preschool book license in the Alligator Books portfolio.

"Nickelodeon is delighted with the success of the Dora's coloring and activity and craft ranges; a testament to her massive popularity with preschoolers and to Alligator's effective and targeted product development," says Clare Piggott, vice president of U.K. consumer products at Nickelodeon.
