This holiday season, kids will be asking for the latest gadgets such as Apple iPads and the Nintendo Wii U, but there’s still demand for some classic gifts like LEGOs, dolls and toy cars according to the National Retail Federation’s 2012 Top Toys survey, conducted by BIGinsight.

“Just like their parents, many children can’t wait to get their hands on the newest gadgets hitting stores,” says Pam Goodfellow, consumer insights director, BIGinsight. “However, plenty of children still ask for classic gifts like dolls, cars and clothes, making sure that Santa has plenty of options when it comes to selecting the perfect gift.”

A surprise item in this year’s Top 10 is Hasbro’s Furby, which ranked No. 3 on girls’ wish lists and No. 9 on boys’ lists. The Furby was a must-have toy in the late ’90s, but faded from the scene after a few years; however, earlier this year, Hasbro brought the brand into the digital age, adding LCD eyes and compatible iPad apps.
