Combined total sales for U.K.-based fashion and home retailer has reported Next Retail and Next Directory were up 0.9 percent for the 14 weeks to Nov. 1. Next Retail sales were up 0.3 percent on the same period in 2007, but like-for-like sales were down 4.4 percent. Next Directory sales—through catalog and online routes—were up 2.1 percent on last year.
Next expects autumn/winter 2008 retail like-for-likes to be down 4 percent to 7 percent and Directory sales to be flat or up 2 percent. It said it expects negative like-for-likes to continue throughout 2009.
Next has 480 stores in the U.K. and the Republic of Ireland, online and catalogs sales through Next Directory and has 140 international stores.
