AT New Media has announced plans to re-launch the ’90s U.K. racing game, “Carmageddon.”

The original version of the video game will soon be available for mobile devices, and a new game, “Carmageddon Reincarnation” is in development.

AT New Media has been appointed as licensing agent for the video game brand to capitalize on the interest this gaming re-launch will bring. The agency is already in talks with potential partners in the collectibles and apparel categories.

“With the original soon to be available again and the new version waiting in the wings, ‘Carmageddon’ fever is set to explode in the same way it did 15 years ago,” says Simon Kay, chief executive officer, AT New Media. “The brand is receiving a lot of press coverage, and gaming websites are absolutely alive with anticipation, so we will be using this massive buzz to build up a licensing program that will delight new and old fans alike.”

“Carmageddon” was created by U.K. developer Stainless Games and was first released in the late-’90s. The game’s tongue-in-cheek violence caused a media storm, prompting questions in the Houses of Parliament and TV debates about violence in video games. The game is based on the 1975 movie Death Race 2000.
