Children’s author Leslie McGuirk and restaurateur Alex von Bidder have teamed up with the San Diego Zoo to take their character Wiggens on a new adventure.
The chocolate Labrador Wiggens stars in his second iPad e-book, Wiggens Makes Friends at the San Diego Zoo, produced by Skyreader Media.
The fully interactive e-book takes children behind the scenes at the San Diego Zoo and involves them in activities such as feeding and engaging with the animals. A part of the proceeds of the sale of the app will go to support the San Diego Zoo.
“We are an organization dedicated to putting people in touch with animals,” says Ted Molter, director of marketing, San Diego Zoo Global. “These books help us do this by reaching out to children in a fun and informative way–building interest in endangered species.”
Wiggens Makes Friends at the San Diego Zoo is now available in the Apple iOS App Store, as well as on Skyreader Media’s online bookshelf.
“We are thrilled to work with the San Diego Zoo, an incredible brand known for its commitment to the preservation of animals and the environments that they live in,” says Kevin Gillis, chief executive officer, Skyreader Media. “With the launch of Wiggens Makes Friends at the San Diego Zoo, we are also marking our continuing momentum into the top tier of children’s e-book apps.”
The first Wiggens book, Wiggens Learns His Manners At the Four Seasons Restaurant, launched the partnership between co-authors McGuirk and von Bidder and received notice from Martha Stewart, Tom Brokaw, Mary Higgens Clark and Tim Zagat.
