National Entertainment Collectibles, a U.S.-based manufacturer of entertainment-branded products, has acquired the majority assets of Movie Gallery, which includes the Hollywood Video, Movie Gallery and Game Crazy brands.

The acquisition sees NECA adding more strength to its content development and distribution services. In the next few weeks, the company is expecting to announce partnerships for genre-specific kiosk launches (i.e. Redbox and Blockbuster) and streaming content (i.e. Netflix). NECA also recently acquired Reel.com.

"Our company is about giving unique entertainment offerings at a fair price to fans of movies, games and pop culture," says Joel Weinshanker, president and chief operating officer of NECA. "When the opportunity arose to be able to bring this philosophy to such a substantial and loyal base, our choice was very clear."

Financial terms of the Movie Gallery deal were not disclosed.
