Metrostar has announced licensing deals for the Viz comic brand with CardMix for greeting cards and online personalized greetings based on Viz Top Tips, and with Spike Leisurewear for T-shirts based on the Viz characters.

Both product ranges will launch this autumn. CardMix products will be available at high-street and independent retailers and department stores.

In other Viz news, themed apparel from Famous Forever is already on sale in Next where separate T-shirt designs of Sid the Sexist and most recently, Johnny Fartpants, are to be augmented by a Johnny Fartpants underwear range by Brand Alliance later this summer. A range of Brand Alliance T-shirts for Tesco is planned for autumn. The Officers Club will launch Viz T-shirts and apparel in all stores beginning in the fall.

First published in 1979, Viz is an icon of British popular culture with a monthly readership of more than 400,000.

With a wide demographic appeal in a market now actively embracing Viz humor, Metrostar's Claire Potter

predicts more growth. "The resurgence of interest at retail in the Viz brand is very encouraging and we are now capitalizing on this through discussions with key manufacturers for gift and toy products while extending the apparel offering into new product categories," she says.
