Electronic Arts has tapped Mega Brands to develop construction toys based on racing video game franchise Need for Speed.

The construction sets, allowing kids and collectors to build their own vehicles, will be available in summer 2011.

"For over 16 years, Need for Speed has been at the forefront of contemporary automotive culture," says Keith Munro, vice president of marketing for EA's Need for Speed. "We are committed to delivering unique and fun experiences to our fans whether it's feeling the rush of a cop pursuit at 200 mph or custom building your own race machine. Now, through our partnership with Mega Bloks, everyone will be able to create their own customizable Need for Speed experience."

The Need for Speed franchise has generated nearly $3 billion in sales, according to EA. The global brand includes 17 titles with more than 110 million copies sold worldwide.
