Mattel Wins in Bratz Case

Mattel has won its copyright infringement case against MGA. A jury found that designer Carter Bryant created the concept for Bratz dolls while under contract with Mattel. The verdict means that, going forward, Mattel can file an injunction preventing MG

A from producing the dolls without Mattel’s permission or can claim damages and even part ownership of the brand that analysts estimate has annual sales between $500 million to as high as $2 billion. The judge also ruled that privately owned MGA will have to disclose how much Bratz has made in sales since its launch in 2001.
