Horrid Henry is to be made into a 3-D feature film by U.K.-based Vertigo Films, the company behind Streetdance. It will be the first British children's film to be shot in 3-D.

Horrid Henry is the literary creation of Franesca Simon and book sales are currently in excess of 16 million, behind only those of Harry Potter. Horrid Henry is also a TV show, stage show and computer game. The non-film rights are held by Novel Entertainment, which will co-produce the film. The release date is scheduled for 2011 and Nick Moore will direct.

Vertigo is hunting for an acting talent to star as the boy who wages constant battle against the tyranny of adults, with his little brother Peter Perfect and the infuriating girl next door, Moody Margaret.

"We're delighted to be bringing Henry to life, in the truest sense of the word—for so many kids Henry already exists, but seeing him up on the big screen gives them the chance to meet their hero face to face," says Lucinda Whiteley, co-founder of Novel Entertainment.

"It's a testament to the popularity and strength of the character that he can succeed so well in so many different forms, and we're especially pleased to be working with such a strong production team, especially Nick Moore whose work we have long admired."
