The 37th Hong Kong Toys and Games Fair opens Monday, Jan. 10, with the Hong Kong International Licensing Show running concurrently. Last year's show attracted 33,000 trade buyers from 125 countries and boasted nearly 2,000 exhibitors, making it the world's second largest toy fair.
Attendance from outside Hong Kong was up 36 percent and nearly a fifth of those overseas buyers were from Europe. Importantly, the fair provides access to the Chinese market, which showed a 26 percent hike in toy retail sales in 2009.
The Hong Kong toy fair is divided into themed zones, including Video Games, Educational Toys and Games, Hobbies, Outdoor Games and, this year, a new eco toy display featuring exhibitors with green elements in design, function, material and manufacturing.
