Hasbro has teamed up with digital game developer PopCap to turn popular game apps like “Bejeweled” into physical games.

The licensing agreement will allow Hasbro to develop physical games based on PopCap properties, which also include “Plants vs. Zombies” and “Zuma.”

“Hasbro shares PopCap’s vision and commitment to high-quality and endlessly enjoyable game play,” says Brennan Townley, director of brand licensing, PopCap Games. “We’re thrilled to work with Hasbro to create unique game experiences around PopCap’s intellectual properties that expand our brands in authentic, meaningful ways.”

Initially Hasbro will focus on “Bejeweled,” with plans to release two games this spring–a Bejeweled board game featuring gem game pieces and a card game called Bejeweled Frenzy.

Both games will feature digital tie-ins for online “Bejeweled” players such as free game downloads and credits for the Facebook game “Bejeweled Blitz.”

“PopCap has created some of the most popular, unique and enduring video game franchises of all time, and we are excited to help bring these properties to the analog world,” says Jonathan Berkowitz, vice president of marketing, Hasbro Gaming. “We can’t wait to give consumers around the globe all new ways to play and interact with their favorite PopCap brands.”
