DreamWorks Animation has announced a new TV series based on the 2010 film

How to Train Your Dragon

“Dragons: Riders of Berk” will premiere on Cartoon Network Sept. 4.

This is DreamWorks’ third foray into the world of episodic television, but the first time one of its series will air on Cartoon Network.

“The Penguins of Madagascar” and “Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness” both continue to air on Nickelodeon.

The new “Dragons” weekly animated series will continue to follow the adventures of Hiccup and his dragon Toothless on the Viking island of Berk.

A sequel to the film

How To Train Your Dragon

is scheduled for June 20, 2014.
