Disney Publishing Worldwide has partnered with Apple iBooks Author for a digital behind-the-scenes book based on Tim Burton’s upcoming animated film Frankenweenie, in theaters Oct. 5.

Frankenweenie: An Electrifying Book captures the creation of the film from concept to completion in an interactive format that features integrated videos, music and original sketches, in the first book that Disney Publishing has created for the iBook platform.

“We’re thrilled to give fans a look at how Tim Burton and his creative team brought Victor Frankenstein and Sparky to life in the town of New Holland,” says Lyle Underkoffler, vice president, digital media, Disney Publishing Worldwide. “Using iBooks Author, Disney Publishing was able to include more digital content than ever before–including previews of animated storyboards documenting the transition from sketch to screen.”

The book includes a history of the 1984 live-action short film that inspired the stop-motion feature, a foreword by actor Martin Landau (the voice of Mr. Rzykruski in the film, the ability to create a “chalkboard collage” using the film’s characters, as well as a look into The Art of Frankenweenie Exhibition, currently on tour.

In addition to the eBook, Disney Publishing Worldwide has released several print books in support of the feature film, including Frankenweenie: A Cinematic Storybook, Frankenweenie: A Novel and Frankenweenie: A Monstrous Menagerie of Stickers! A graphic novel and a visual companion will also be released in the coming months.

Frankenweenie: An Electrifying Book is now available for free at the Apple iBookstore.
