Discovery Communications and Weldon Owen announced an agreement with Kingfisher, publisher of non-fiction books, for Animal Planet branded books for children. The agreement involves 17 titles to be published over a three-year span, beginning in September, for distribution in the U.S. and the U.K.

This collection of children’s books includes three larger reference volumes, a series of 48-page books targeting ages 9-12 and a series of younger picture books for ages 5-8.

“Animal Planet programming is loved by viewers of all ages and is as informative as it is entertaining,” said Elizabeth Bakacs, vice president of licensing at Discovery Commerce. “These new books are the perfect extension of the network for the future generation of animal enthusiasts.”

Joester Loria Group will manage the publishing program in North America on behalf of Animal Planet. Discovery Enterprises International will manage the publishing program across all international markets.
