Retail same-store sales rose slightly in December with 3.6 percent growth, according to Kantar Retail.

The sales-weighted composite increased modestly from the 3.1 percent same-store sales gain last month and the 3.2 percent gain in December of 2010.

Tandy Leather factory posted the biggest increase in same-store sales at 19 percent, followed by Zumiez at 10 percent and Ross Stores at 9 percent.

Retailer Gap saw the biggest decline, with a decrease of 4 percent, according to Kantar Retail.

"The holiday results reflect trends we can continue to expect into the New Year," says Frank Badillo, senior economist at Kantar Retail. "We’re seeing weak to modest growth overall that hides pockets of strength skewed toward upscale retailers and value-focused retailers that win over shoppers at the expense of their competitors.”
