Rainbow and Daewon Media have signed a distribution agreement for Daewon’s new 3-D animation property “Gon,” which is in production and will be completed by the end of 2011. The series is based on a manga property owned by Kodansha, the largest publication house in Japan.

Rainbow has acquired distribution and licensing rights for Europe and is the first time Rainbow has acquired a third-party property.

“Our decision to take on a third-party property is an indication of our strong belief in this unique and loveable property,” says Iginio Straffi, chief executive officer of Rainbow “We strongly believe in its potential and have high hopes for Gon’s success.”

“Gon” is similar to a small dinosaur and has unimaginable power and speed. The original books, which feature other animal characters and no humans, are known for their story-telling, detailed animal illustrations and fresh, humorous outlook.
