DreamWorks Animation has granted Cartoon Network the worldwide broadcast rights to new CG-animated television series "How To Train Your Dragon," set to debut in 2012.

"The 'How To Train Your Dragon' weekly series definitely falls into that category of giving our viewers around the globe something they can't find anywhere else on television and DreamWorks Animation is a proven leader in taking this art form to the next level," says Stuart Snyder, president and chief operating officer of Turner's animation, young adults and kids business.

The How To Train Your Dragon property is based on the book by Cressida Cowell, which follows a unique friendship between a young Viking and a dragon. The film hit theaters this past spring and netted close to $500 million worldwide. DreamWorks plans to release a 3-D sequel in 2013.
