Scholastic Media has big plans for the 50th anniversary of Clifford the Big Red Dog, which includes new publications, a live event, a birthday card campaign and a national sweepstakes.
The celebrations will kick off Sept. 24 with the “Biggest Birthday Party Ever” live event at Scholastic headquarters. The event will be streamed to classrooms nationwide and will coincide with the publication of Norman Bridwell’s Clifford Collection, a compilation of six classic Clifford stories. Additional new titles will be released in 2013.
“Clifford’s Big Birthday” app will launch in September for both iOS and Android, and Scholastic will launch three new Facebook apps for adults to help fans prepare for Clifford’s official birthday on Feb. 14.
“For 50 years, Clifford has earned a place among the most iconic and beloved characters in children’s literature and entertainment,” says Deborah Forte, president, Scholastic Media and executive vice president, Scholastic. “We are delighted to invite children and families to participate in this big celebration and to congratulate Norman Bridwell on this extraordinary milestone.”
Since the first Clifford book was published in 1963, the property has expanded to include 126 million books in print and an award-winning television series, currently in its 12th season on PBS Kids in the U.S.
