ASDA has confirmed the appointment of Andy Clarke as its new chief executive officer. Previously ASDA's chief operating officer, he will replace Andy Bond, who moves into his role as chair of the retailer's executive committee immediately.
Clarke worked at ASDA as a store manager before leaving for roles at Matalan and Iceland and then returning to ASDA in 2007.
"At Walmart and at ASDA, we have a robust succession planning and talent development process and Andy Clarke has long been identified as a leader," says Doug McMillon, president of Walmart International.
