Chapman Entertainment has reported a solid first quarter for 2009 with properties Fifi and the Flowertots and Roary the Racing Car showing strong sales and outperforming licensee forecasts.

According to Chapman, Fifi and the Flowertots met licensee forecasts in Q1. Sales showed first-quarter growth of 45 percent over all categories in Europe, with the rest of the world now accounting for 20 percent of total sales. Positive growth was seen in apparel, music and publishing.

Roary the Racing Car, which launched in 2007, showed 15 percent first-quarter growth over licensee forecasts in the U.K., with a strong performance in all categories. In Europe, Chapman Entertainment reported a 56 percent growth for Roary, and a 36 percent growth for the rest of the world. Highlights were an uplift of 44 percent for Roary publishing and 21 percent for Roary apparel, Chapman said.

"We are pleased to report that despite the difficult retail climate and closure of Woolworths in the U.K., Chapman Entertainment

has had a profitable post-Christmas period, exceeding forecasts in Q1 this year for Fifi and Roary," says Andrew Haydon, commercial and finance director at Chapman Entertainment. "We continue to invest heavily in our properties focusing our attention on solid and deep marketing, retail support and ensuring we are offering the right ranges at the right prices. We are expecting these positive results to continue throughout 2009."

Roary The Racing Car has 34 licensees in the U.K. and internationally and has been sold to over 110 countries. Fifi and the Flowertots is in 166 countries with 116 licensees globally, and 52 of those are in the U.K.
