Based in Barcelona, Biplano, which has represented King Features in Spain since 1995, will represent Popeye, Olive Oyl, Betty Boop and other King Features licensed properties in France as well.

Biplano will retain RMP general manager Pierre Gaucher as a consultant during the transitional period, and will keep the current six-person licensing team in the Paris office intact. A new manager will be appointed for the Paris office later this month.

"We are delighted that RMP has reached an agreement to be acquired by Biplano,” says Cathleen Titus, King Features vice president of international licensing. “Over the 20 years of our association, RMP and Pierre Gaucher have done a tremendous job of establishing and building the King Features licensing program in France, particularly for Betty Boop. We very much appreciate Pierre’s support during the transition so that Biplano can begin its new licensing foray into the French territory without missing a beat.”

“Given the rapid changes in the global marketplace, we decided to be proactive and move ahead of the curve,” says Jordi Rey, general manager of Biplano. “We will work closely with the licensees in France on product development, design and SKU plans, and will work with retailers to secure retail support and distribution. The licensors we represent are happy because we will be able to deliver the same level of service in more than one territory, helping to ensure that products based on their iconic brands will continue to be successful in the marketplace.”
