Babar has stampeded into Europe with a number of new deals announced by Nelvana Enterprises and The Clifford Ross Company for both the modern and vintage versions of the property.

ITV Studios Global Entertainment has signed on to represent Babar in the U.K. In keeping with the property’s 80th anniversary, the initial product ranges will focus on vintage Babar, targeting the preschool, nursery and gifting categories, but ITVS GE will also look for opportunities for the new CG-animated TV series “Babar and the Adventures of Badou.”

In other deals:

  • Rio Licensing was appointed as agent in Russia and Vita-Alisa was named master toy in the region;

  • A range of new product partners were added in France including TF1 Licences from Lansay for fire trucks and other toys, Lisciani Giochi for toys, Cooper for pharmacy items, School Pack for back-to-school products, Papo for PVC figurines, Riethmüller for party goods and Worlds Apart for bedroom accessories;

  • In Germany Hutter Trade signed on for board games and Nelson became the brand’s publishing partner, in deals brokered by agent M4e; and

  • In Portugal, Popcorn came on board as agent for the region while Booksmile signed on for publishing and Artimbal announced plans for a back-to-school range.
