Mixed martial arts brands TapouT and Silver Star Casting Company have been acquired by Authentic Brands Group.

TapouT is a MMA apparel, gear and lifestyle brand for men, women and kids. It also represents a number of fighters, including Rashad Evans and Rich Franklin. In addition to apparel, TapouT has a TV reality series, radio show and is the official clothing brand for Spike TV's "The Ultimate Fighter."

Meanwhile, Silver Casting, founded in 1993, is the official sponsor of the Ultimate Fighting Championship at the mid- to upper-tier level of distribution. The company's sub brand Iron Star is available at the mid-tier to mass retail level.

"This sport is still in its infancy," says Jamie Salter, Authentic Brands Group's chairman and chief executive officer. "We strategically chose these acquisitions as our first big move because we're getting into the right business at the right time. We're looking forward to working with the best brands and the best athletes in the world as we transition these two companies into global lifestyle brands with our retail and licensing partners."

Authentic Brands, in partnership with Leonard Green & Partners and Knights Bridge Capital, also manages the Bob Marley family of brands.
